Planning to get your hands on the Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display (Apple iPad Mini 2)? In case something goes wrong, do you think you can fix it yourself? According to repair experts at iFixit, the device will be difficult to repair.
According to iFixit, “iPad Mini Retina Display Repairability: 2 out of 10(10 is easiest to repair).”
There are two things that will not give you problems. First, “The LCD and glass are not fused together and can be replaced independently.” Second, “The battery is not soldered to the logic board or other components.”
One thing will prove quite a challenge. This is, “Teeny-tiny screws can be easily misplaced if you’re not careful. Don’t sneeze too hard while taking them off.”
Three things will be difficult. First, “Copious amounts of adhesive hold many components in place—front glass, battery, front camera, back camera, ribbon cables—making repair extremely difficult.” Second, “The Lightning connector is soldered to the logic board, so don’t bend its pins.” Third, “Hidden screws mean you’ll need to be very diligent when trying to remove internal components.”
